Tobias Hoffmann ist Saxophonist, Komponist und Arrangeur mit einem klaren Fokus auf großformatige Jazzensembles. Mit seinem Jazz Orchestra und Nonet entwickelt er vielschichtige Klangwelten, die komplexe kompositorische Strukturen mit improvisatorischer Freiheit verbinden.

 

Seine Musik bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle von zeitgenössischem Big Band Jazz, orchestraler Klangarchitektur und europäischer Jazzästhetik. Dabei schafft er es, narrative Prozesse und subtile Spannungen hörbar zu machen, ohne den direkten emotionalen Zugang zum Publikum zu verlieren.

 

Hoffmanns Arbeiten wurden mehrfach international ausgezeichnet und auf Festivals sowie Konzertreihen in Deutschland, Österreich und darüber hinaus präsentiert. Seine Projekte zeichnen sich durch eine individuelle Mischung aus Präzision, Farbigkeit und dramaturgischer Tiefe aus, die sowohl Jazz-Kenner als auch ein breiteres Publikum anspricht.

Biographie

 

Tobias Hoffmann, geboren 1988 in Göppingen (Deutschland), ist ein mehrfach ausgezeichneter Saxophonist, Komponist und Arrangeur. Gegen Ende seiner Schulzeit entdeckte er seine Leidenschaft für das Saxophon und die Musik. Er studierte Jazz und Komposition in Hannover, Groningen und Wien und schloss seinen Master mit Auszeichnung ab.

 

Mit seinem Jazz Orchestra und Nonet erschafft Hoffmann orchestrale Jazzwelten, die europäische Jazzästhetik, zeitgenössische Big-Band-Tradition und improvisatorische Freiheit miteinander verbinden. Seine Kompositionen zeichnen sich durch dichte Harmonien, narrative Spannungsbögen und dramaturgische Tiefe aus – Musik, die sowohl Fachpublikum als auch Jazzliebhaber emotional packt.

 

Hoffmann ist als Sideman, Komponist und Arrangeur in ganz Europa gefragt und arbeitete unter anderem mit Bob Mintzer, Benny Golson, Paul Kuhn und John Clayton. Er veröffentlichte die Alben Retrospective (2019), Conspiracy (2022) und Innuendo (2024). Letzteres wurde für den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik nominiert wurde.

 

Seine Arbeit wurde mehrfach international ausgezeichnet, unter anderem bei Jugend Jazzt Baden-Württemberg, dem Europäischen Musikfestival Neerpelt, dem Euroregio Big Band Contest, der American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers und dem Downbeat Magazine. 2019 gewann sein Nonet den ersten Preis der Made in New York Jazz Competition in der Kategorie „Band“.

 

Zu seinen Gastauftritten & Projekten gehören Big Bands wie die NDR Big Band Hamburg, das Subway Jazz Orchestra Köln, die Big Band RTV Slowenien, die Big Band Radio Romania und die Bulgarian National Radio Big Band.

Biography

 

Tobias Hoffmann, born in Göppingen (Germany) in 1988, is a multi-award-winning saxophonist, composer, and arranger. Toward the end of his school years, he discovered his passion for the saxophone and orchestral music. He studied jazz and composition at renowned universities in Hanover, Groningen, and Vienna, and completed his master’s degree with honors.

 

With his Jazz Orchestra and Nonet, Hoffmann creates orchestral jazz worlds that blend European jazz aesthetics, contemporary big band tradition, and improvisational freedom. His compositions are characterized by dense harmonies, narrative arcs, and dramatic depth—music that emotionally captivates both specialist audiences and jazz lovers alike.

 

Hoffmann is in demand throughout Europe as a sideman, composer, and arranger and has worked with Bob Mintzer, Benny Golson, Paul Kuhn, and John Clayton, among others. He has released the albums Retrospective (2019), Conspiracy (2022), and Innuendo (2024), with Innuendo being nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award.

 

His work has received numerous international awards, including from Jugend Jazzt Baden-Württemberg, the European Music Festival Neerpelt, the Euroregio Big Band Contest, the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers, and Downbeat Magazine. In 2019, his nonet won first prize in the “Band” category at the Made in New York Jazz Competition.

 

His guest appearances & projects include renowned big bands such as the NDR Big Band Hamburg, the Subway Jazz Orchestra Cologne, the RTV Slovenia Big Band, the Radio Romania Big Band, and the Bulgarian National Radio Big Band.
